The Iraqi and Syrian Dictatorships deserve to die

The United Nations and world community have a duty to intervene in any member nation and protect its people from genocide or aggression from neighbors. When totalitarian regimes commit genocide against their own people, attack and occupy their neighbors, foments and support terrorism, then the world community has an obligation to rush to defend the weak and the innocent. Sadly, and in several cases, the UN has allowed the mass murder and pillage of whole nations to continue unabated and with no consequences. Serial killers like Saddam and the Assad clan should be treated for what they are; war criminals, and not statesmen. They are thugs and murderers in power and not sovereign legitimate governments.

The Syrian war of aggression against Lebanon since 1975, has claimed 150,000 Lebanese lives, and 200,000 wounded. Over 1.2 million of our people have been forced to flee since 1990. Under the Syrian occupation, an iron curtain has descended upon Lebanon, and is suffocating all the living forces of our society. The Syrian Stalinist regime has transformed Lebanon into a grand prison and oppression has reached unbearable proportions. Its puppet occupation regime has pillaged our economy to the rate of 32 billion dollars. Why isn't Security Council resolution 520 which requires Syria's withdrawal from Lebanon being upheld? Why has been collecting dust for years in Kofi Anan’s drawer? Why has the Syrian-appointed puppet regime in Beirut received international recognition? This dammed world has stood idle for 27 years cajoling the Syrian dictatorship while our blood was spilled daily. As a forsaken people, we do not see any value in the United Nations organization. It has failed to protect us and has instead upheld aggression and tyranny. It is time for a new world organization where the absolute membership conditions are democracy, respect for human rights, and disarmament. And shame to all those so-called brotherly Arab nations? They have clearly supported the Syrian occupiers throughout the years, and we clearly are forced to divorce them. When they become worthy of our respect, we shall then offer them again a hand of friendship. Until then, any democratic and free nation is a potential friend and ally. It is Syria that is trying to annihilate us and assassinate our identity and not Israel. That is clarity and facts on the ground. Our true long term security can only be accomplished when the Syrian and all Arab dictatorships are overthrown and replaced with democratic governments.

Arabs loudly complain that Israel does not respect UN resolutions neither. They choose to ignore the historical fact that they were the ones who rejected the UN resolution for Palestine in 1948. They forget that it was Nasser who blocked the Suez and Eilat straight in 1956 and 1967 in clear violation of international law. They are amnesiac about the incessant Syrian shelling of the Galile from the Golan Heights before the 67 war. They ignore Jordan’s unprovoked entry in the 1967 war which lost it the West Bank. They hate PM Sharon, yet ignore the historical fact that PM Ehud Barak offered the Palestinian’s almost everything they wanted in Camp David, but they rejected peace and chose instead to blow up pizza parlors and discotheques. They forget that it was Hafez Assad who rejected President’s Clinton mediation for peace with Israel. In the same filthy conscience, the Arabs choose to ignore UN resolution 520 which obligates Syria to withdraw from Lebanon. Arab rulers continuously violate human rights and continue to oppress, conspire, kidnap, jail, gag, exploit, and murder their own people in daylight. Such filth should not be encouraged by civilized European nations. If Europe truly cares about international law and the people of the Middle East, then it should support the United States effort to rid the area from terror regimes, to liberate our people, and to bring democracy and the rule of law to the darkland.

Germany's Chancellor Shroeder, France's President Chirac, and Russia's President Putin should show compassion towards the oppressed and enslaved Arabs living under totalitarianism for more than 50 years, rather than to the blood thirsty rulers. Contract dollars are apparently worth more to European governments and Russia than the lives and dignity of millions in the Middle East. Where was France when the “Libertee”, “Egalitee”, and “Fraternitee” of the Lebanese were being slaughtered by the Syrian army? European nations have shamelessly stood with whoever stands at the moment among the totalitarian crowd. These are the same European powers who colonized the nations of Earth, enslaved whole peoples, and took without asking. These same hypocrites today oppose America and Britain's bid to free our people from tyranny and end the slaughter. At least America never colonized a nation. America pays for its oil, it does not steal it. Even though the US made a grave mistake in Lebanon when it supported the Syrian Taef Accord, we welcome its redemption today. We forgive, and we join hands and hearts for a common cause. The Syria Accountability Act is the first step towards gaining a lost honor. The defense of the free world passes through Baghdad, Damascus, and Teheran.

My daughter asked me recently; "If the US goes to war against Lebanon, whose side will you be on"? I immediately answered: "The US all the way! Because I would not be fighting against Lebanon, I would be fighting the Syrian occupation.” Then I added: “when Lebanon is liberated and democracy is installed, we would never be against America. Democracies do not declare war on each others. We share the same values."

We the Free Lebanese support America and Britain in the open and to the end. We have everything to gain. Freedom for our people, peace for the region, and safety for the world.

Long Live Free Lebanon
