Implementing 1559... and the day after!

Today, I would like to send my admirations, and I allow myself to do so on behalf all of us in the Diaspora to all opposition groups in occupied Lebanon on their brave civilised stance (unarmed) against the most brutal occupation in the new millennium, and wish all of us the best of hopes in the coming festive seasons on having the happiest and brightest dawn - a sovereign one. I would also like to take this opportunity to reiterate my best wishes to all who are involved in this long and hard struggle to achieve our FREEDOM, INDEPENDENCE and SOVERIENGTY.

Three months have elapsed since the UN Security Council voted on resolution 1559 during this period; the Lebanese people were willing to extend a hand to its Syrian neighbour, so we can act together on implementing resolution 1559 in all its stages in order to part as we should NEIGHBOURLY! Unfortunately, to date, I cannot say that we have encountered the same willingness on the Syrian side. The car bomb attacks on political figures a terror instigated by Syrian intelligence agencies, the political violence and the incitement have not ceased during this period, even for a day, and the leadership on the Syrian side has not taken any steps to stop these actions whether from Syrian or their Lebanese ‘pals’.

They have not done anything; they did not stop the horrible provocation in the media, education system and mosques under their control which call for the cancellation of UN resolution 1559, not even for a moment. The Syrian cynicism was revealed during the march of the so called ‘million man march’ on the other hand, members of the newly appointed government took responsibility for the political and psychological attacks, by standing in front of every microphone and media outlet denouncing the opposition groups for defending the people right to Freedom, Sovereignty and Independence.

The Syrian Baathist regime must understand that no Lebanese will leave a stone unturned to free his/her country or allow the land of (God) Cedars rotten under an occupation of any kind whether from an enemy or sisterly. The only way for us to accept any relation with the Syrian Stalinist regime is for them to pack their belonging and go home while they can! They will be no peace, and there cannot be peace, before the occupation is ended or defeated.

Until then, until the Syrian Baathist regime understands that Syria’s interest is in having a neighbourly relation that obligates them to stop the occupation while the people of Lebanon still have dignity to open future dialogue with the Syrian regime instead of continuing political instigation against the Lebanese opposition groups, the very one they will have to sit down and negotiate with their withdrawals in the near future.

After the terror attack of 9/11 in New York the world began to understand our loses as Lebanese and see the grievances in our eyes, that we were the first victims of a long sought terror campaign driven by the same one who are directing the Iraqi nightmare no other than the Syrian and the Iranian terror networks. Yesterday! (28 years ago) the Lebanese people were single out but today the whole world is facing the same menace.

There is no leader globally can deny how they failed to appreciate the uniqueness in having Lebanon as a melting pot of religion, ethnic and culture diversity coexisted together until the Syrian were given a mandate to stop the war in Lebanon. Contrary to their mandate the Syrian systematically destroyed that model and replaces it with the likes of Al-Quaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas, and Jihad…etc.

Decades of appeasement by western democracies to the Baathist regime, ill fated foreign policies on their behalf and sleeping (with the enemy) western intelligence agencies did not anticipate that one day (terrorism) they would come in and devastated the serenity of their own people. It is clear that in such a situation, there will be no political (trading) negotiations with the Syrian occupation if they fail to undo their damage in Lebanon, and they will, of course, not be able to realize their political wishes and aspirations.

I know there are those who believe that the current situation it can be salvaged between the US and the Syrian regime with political manoeuvring under the leadership of young cub (Bashar Assad). I would like to emphasize, in the case where UN resolution 1559 implemented partially by the Syrian as they have done previously with the ill fated ‘Taef ‘accord. A sudden Syrian withdrawal without disarming the militants leaves the armed thugs (Hezbollah, Iranian, and Palestinian) to face the Lebanese people as a form of political pressure. The opposition groups in both occupied Lebanon and in the Diaspora must be ready and prepare for any political power vacuum.

This is, of course, something we cannot accept, for the Lebanese people once more to pay the cleaning-up bill of 28 years of Baathist occupation mess. It places the Lebanese people in a similar thorny situation the Iraqi people are facing the daily terror attacks. There are those who occasionally raise this "wonderful" dream of a European or American plans, there are also a few Lebanese plans which could lead us to the abyss and rise to the surface at any time.

The great hidden danger to the newly born Lebanese Republic comes of political power "vacuum". I believe the fact we have been faced with similar deceitfulness as a result of the Baathist regime, which Lebanon must prepare itself ahead of time so that we will not be caught unprepared as in similar instances in the past, that doesn’t mean the start of political dialogue with organisations listed as terrorist organisations and the manifesto of these organisations calls for the creation of an Islamic state under the Shariaa law and continues to receive financial aids in the hundreds of million of dollars from foreign governments to create a state within a state.

In all references to the subject, I emphasize the importance in coordinating the steps that Lebanese opposition groups should talk with whom ever the UN council appoints to implement the withdrawals, must at least have a United States involvement. In any event, it is clear to me that we must be prepared for any situation. It would not be acceptable for us not to be prepared for a situation which we foresaw so clearly, and now more than ever we are witnessing the Syrian occupation breathing its last breath in occupied Lebanon.

Free Lebanon … Lebanon is Freedom
